Bronson
Surfacing from novel revisions just long enough to say how much I adored Nicholas Winding Refn's film Bronson. It's one of the best films I've seen this year, no joke, and balances brutality and humor with impressive skill. It also has the best use of a Pet Shop Boys song ever. All the trailers give away too much, in my opinion, but here's a clip that at least captures Hardy's flair in the titular role of England's most infamous prisoner. It's has some naughty language, so depending on one's place of employment this may be NSFW:
Absolutely brilliant filmmaking and acting, I can't recommend it enough--far from being the simple action movie I was expecting, it's a beautifully realized meditation on violence. With the Pet Shop Boys.
I should have the manuscript buttoned up within a week but until then lurker mode continues. Hope all is well with everyone out there in reality.
