US Launch of The Enterprise of Death! Was Slept Through By Yours Truly!

Sad but true--yesterday The Enterprise of Death was released in the states and Canada, and I spent the day curled up in a fetal position gibbering to myself and leaking precious face juices. My health is a thing of legend when it comes to bizarre but usually non-serious maladies, but aside from Horticulturalists Verdigris and equally obscure conditions that I seem to acquire with regularity I rarely get, you know, sick. I've had a couple of colds in as many months, but they were weak, flailing things that failed to properly inconvenience me for more than a day or a two at a time, but whatever I picked up this time has clubbed me down and kept me there for what seems like years now but has probably only been a week. I'm finally starting to feel better, but as I crawl forward through the haze of malady and medicine I see that my sophomore novel has jumped its enclosure and escaped out into the world. Good for it.

I'm still feeling crazed and unwell, so this will be brief, but I did want to announce the launch and link to a few relevant items.

Item One: I have a Big Idea column up on John Scalzi's site today.

Item Two: I have a column on alchemy up over at the Orbit blog.

Item Three: I'm doing a reading tonight, assuming I don't take a drastic turn for the worse before then, at the Tattered Cover in Denver (Colfax location) at 07:30--if I thought there was any chance I was still contagious I'd definitely bail, but I seem to be, if not out of the woods, stumbling through the brambles at the outskirts.

Item Four: The inimitable Matt Staggs invited me to take part in Suvudu's Take Five interview, which was a lot of fun.

Item Five: A lot of people have said very nice things about Enterprise that I've neglected to mention here due to a combination of working to exhaustion on a new project and then acquiring whatever fell nastiness is now upon me. [info]astrobolism, who won a galley with his impressive rendering of Dr. Paracelsus, had this to say about it. Another galley winner, Leon Sandall, posted this, which has a few spoilers. Fellow LJer [info]jtglover, who'd volunteered to beta-read the novel and in turn provided all kinds of invaluable suggestions to the rough draft, made a very much appreciated post about it last week. Then Falcata Times, Adventures of a Bookonaut, and Warpcore SF all had sweet things to say as well, some of them a bit spoiler heavy.

There have also been the inevitable crop of less enthusiastic reviews, but since most of the complaints seem to be of the "it's different from the last book" variety, along with the casual bit of homophobic idiocy ("Its obvious Mr. Bullington has a Fascination with Lesbianism  and gratuitous vulgarity and this ruins every other aspect of the book for me"), they're not really anything to lose sleep over. And you heard it here first: having a gay female protagonist means you have "a Fascination with Lesbianism"--and not just the regular kind of fascination, either, but a capital one!

Item Six: It currently feels like a small rodent is trying to escape my brain via my sinuses. I'm sure I've neglected to mention some very nice people and reviews at present, and I'll try to rectify that in a future post, but for now I'm going to cut out. As always, if you read the novel and feel inclined to post a quick review on Amazon or elsewhere it's always very much appreciated, especially since this one seems even more divisive than the Brothers Grossbart, but, really, I can't thank you enough just for reading. Apologies for the random sick blathers, and expect a more coherent post in the future--thanks again, everyone, and take care!

Shouldn't that be a "fascination with Necromantic Lesbianism" smile

You'd think that would draw a mention, yeah? Perhaps that's the "vulgarity" in question...
