There have been some recent developments of interest regarding Jeff VanderMeer's collection The Third Bear, which readers will recognize from earlier mention on this very blog. It's a great book, and has earned tons of accolades, but if you still haven't given it a go here are some tidbits that might sweeten the pot. Honey pot, because the Third Bear himself is such a sweet little ursine darling, of course.
First off, the music site Largehearted Boy has a neat feature with Jeff on the intersection of music and fiction where this collection is concerned. As someone who almost always has music playing when he writes I found this to be a cool concept for a column, and the response fulfills the promise of the premise. The site is also offering a free PDF of the story "The Quickening" from the collection, so go forth and read.
Other Bear Business includes the free e-book of appreciations of stories from the collection, The Third Bear Carnival, that GeekDad is giving away, and the news from the bear(d)lord himself that all royalties received from The Third Bear will go to supporting the translation component of the forthcoming Leviathan 5 anthology project. If all that doesn't convince you, perhaps this cautionary clip from the tasteful eco-horror Prophecy will--don't piss off the bears, people:
