Having a busy time of it, but wanted to pop in to share these three matters of possible interest:

First off is the lecture I recently delivered at SDSU, “The Fiend with a Thousand Faces: Monsters as a Mirror of Humanity.” We recorded the audio from the presentation, and author/editor/translator/podcaster/cavemage Scott Nicolay interviewed me about it after the fact. This material is now free for the listening as Episode 48 of The Outer Dark Podcast-many thanks to Scott and author/producer Anya Martin for hosting me!

This brings us to Thing the Second: I also appear on Episode 47 of the Outer Dark, as one of the participants on the “Weird in Sword & Sorcery/Sword & Soul” panel. Surprising nobody, I blather about Beastmaster. This was recorded live at the recent Outer Dark Symposium on the Greater Weird 2019, and was masterfully moderated by Milton J. Davis. My co-panelists were Gerald L. Coleman, Nancy A. Collins, Anya Martin, Ian McDowell, and Balogun Ojetade, and the episode also features recordings of fiction readings by Nadia Bulkin, Mike Allen, and Lesley Wheeler. Thanks again to Anya and Scott for facilitating not only these episodes but also the entire Symposium, it was one hell of a time.

Finally, I am happy to announce my involvement in a new Kickstarter project. Writer and editor Ben Thomas is releasing an omnibus of The Willows, his dearly beloved magazine of Neo-Victorian weird horror, and in addition to reprinting every classic issue it will also feature new stories by Gemma Files, Orrin Grey, Brian Evenson, John Langan, and myself…but only if it’s funded. All the details are on the KS page, any and all support, shares, etc. would be appreciated!
